The Bar @ Bradley Stoke Cricket Club Newsletter 15th September 2008

Well the nights are drawing in, Christmas is on its way and there is no more cricket to be played until the end of April - thats over 6 months away! So what are you going to do on the weekends to replace the cricket?

As you'd expect I have got some ideas which I am happy to run but I'd like to know if you are interested in doing all or some of the ideas I
have. Perhaps you have some ideas that we would like think about too? If so, let me know!

1. A Magical Mystery Tour - The idea is we hire a bus with driver, we go out into the country side with some stops at a few pubs, have a few drinks and end up back at the club for a supper. An all day trip with mystery destinations, a bit of fun!

2. Car Treasure Hunt - starting and finishing at the club, teams (as many as you can legally fit in your car) are given a route and a question paper, off you go , find the answers and back to the club.

3. Curry Night in the club - sample the taste of India in a club fund raiser. I have run these events in the past for my rugby club and they are great nights, book a meal for £10 per head, for which you receive starters plus a full buffet of different curries and you can go back as many times as you like too.

4. Theatre Break in London - I have a contact with a company that runs 3* weekend breaks in London taking in a West End Show. The trip includes coach travel to and from London, one night in a 3* hotel with continental breakfast and tickets for a top West End musical. (You can choose which show you go to, we don't all have to go to the same and choices include Mammia Mia (for Adam Davis), We Will Rock You, Billy Elliott, Hairspray, Joseph, Les Mis, Phanthom plus much more.) The cost is from £99.00 per person.

5. Weekend in Bruges - from the same company above I can organise a weekend away in the beautiful Belgian city of Bruges, including coach and ferry, 3* star hotel with continental breakfast, all day in Bruges, night in Antwerp plus visit to duty free shopping at Cite Calais on return journey. This would mean an early start on the Saturday morning (6am) and returning by midnight on the Sunday night.

So, are you interested? Email tarkatheblowpig@hotmail.com or see me behind the bar

The First Bar committee newsletter

 Dear Club Member

Welcome to the first regular bar committee newsletter. We will be trying to send out as many of these newsletters to keep you abreast of everything that is happening during these exciting times for Bradley Stoke Cricket Club now we have taken over the bar.

The first thing to mention is thanks to everyone who has come along and used the bar since we have taken over. Your custom has allowed us to get in a position where we have now got a stocked bar of as much product as we think we need, we now have a pool table and a dart board, and freeview tv which allows us to show all the Euro 2008 games when we are open.

Currently we are stocking on draught Foster’s, Blackthorn, John Smiths (all at £2 per pint) and Kronenbourg (at £2.20 per pint.) We will be replacing Kronenbourg shortly with Stella Artois as this is what people have been asking for. We also stock Becks, Grolsch, Newcastle Brown and Bass in bottles plus a selection of spirits, wines and soft drinks (J20, Panda Pops and Fruit Shoots) as well as crisps and chocolates at very competitive prices. Please do, if we don’t have your favourite drink, suggest it to us. We can’t promise we will stock it but if enough people request the same we will look at that product.

As I have also mentioned we now have a pool table and dart board for use by all visitors to the club. The bar committee do have to ask that these are for over 12’s to use only unless an adult is supervising. The pool table, especially, is worth a lot of money and we need to ensure it is kept in an excellent condition.

In order to use the pool table I will be setting up a pool competition to be held on Friday nights building up to a finals night towards the end of the season. More details will be going up in the club this weekend. I have also got a number of entertainment fund raising events planned for the coming months. This is all part of my plans to raise £2000 by November for the club. The total raised so far has just jumped over the £1000 level. With your help we can reach this with ease. The events planned so far are as below:

June 21st 2008 starting at 7.30pm – MIDSUMMER BBQ AND GET TOGETHER.  Tickets to club members are £5each (non-members £7.50)

July 19th 2008 starting at 7.30pm – GAMES NIGHT – to include Darts, Pool, Aunt Sally, Dominoes, Cribbage, Kwik cricket. Tickets are £2.00 each

August 28th 2008 starting at 7.30pm – POKER TOURNAMENT – this event is to be run by Dan Tobin, more details to follow soon.

September 13th 2008 starting at 7.30pm – DVD HORSE RACING NIGHT. Horses (£5) and Jockey’s (£2) will be on sale from behind the bar from the start of July. I will also be looking for race sponsors at £10 per race, please let me know if you can help with this.

To purchase tickets for these events please contact me on 07966 521673 or at tarkatheblowpig@hotmail.com or see behind the bar.

Lastly, I am going to be setting up a monthly 100 club draw. This means that I am going to be selling shares in this competition at £4 per month to be paid by standing order to the bar account. (Standing order forms will be available very soon.) How this works is that every 3rd Friday of the month a draw will be held where 10 prizes will be won (1st prize £100, 2nd prize £50, 3rd prize £25 plus 7 other prizes) which gives all members a 10-1 chance of a prize each month.

Hope to see you soon at the club

 Jez

Important & Exciting Message from Jez
Hi club members!

As you may already know Bradley Stoke Cricket Club now run the bar at the Bailey's Court Activity Centre for the benefit of our club.
It is of vital importance that all club members support the bar in order that we can make a success of this venture. The Bradley Stoke
Town Council has supported us greatly in this new venture so please do come and join us and make a success of the cricket club bar!

The bar will be open at the following times:

Friday's from 7pm till 10pm following nets
Saturday's from
6pm till 11pm (if staff are available the bar will open during games too.)
Sunday's from
6pm till 10pm (if staff are available the bar will open during games too.)
Mid-Week League Games
6pm till 10pm (Tuesday and Thursdays).

The Bar will be open at all these times even if match/nets does not take place due to weather.

Slowly we are making the club room more attractive to come and join in the fun. As of tonight a dart board will be available for use by
all members and guests and we hope to have a pool table very soon as well as (thanks to Ben Beeching) a Playstation 2. On occasion
we will also set up the karaoke on a Saturday after a game.

As part of my role as fundraising secretary I have been organising club events on a monthly basis. We have already held a race night (in
the Bailey's Court Inn), disco's and a quiz night which has raised just about a £1000 to go towards club funds. My intention, as declared
at the club AGM last November, is to raise a minimum of £2000 by this November. We are already half way there but we still need your help in supporting events over the next few months to ensure that we reach or even pass this amount. Please see below for a list of forthcoming events:

Saturday 21st June: Midsummer BBQ and Get Together.
Saturday 19th July: Games Night (Dominoes, Darts, Pool, Aunt Sally, PS2, Crib, Shove Ha'Penny etc.)
Saturday 28th August: Poker Tournament.
Saturday 13th September: Horse Racing Night.

Tickets are now on sale for the Midsummer BBQ - please see me at the club to purchase your tickets or email me  on
tarkatheblowpig@hotmail.com or telephone 07966 521673.

Finally an appeal to you all! Do you have any items of sporting, particularly cricket, memorabilia that you would be prepared to loan to the club to put up on the walls? Pictures, Photo's, Shirts, Bats, you name it we'll put it up! Please let me know if you can help!

Cheers
