Match Report:-This fixture was the first
game for the newly formed Bradley Stoke Cricket Club Youth XI and we were up
against an established side in the form of Winterbourne.
Bradley Stoke Captain Tom Bradley won the toss and elected to field with
David English and Luke Derrick taking the responsibility of opening the
bowling. The first 6 overs were a close battle with Winterbourne managing to
keep all 10 wickets intact but struggling to score at any pace.
Due to the friendly nature of the game Winterbourne’s opening batsmen were
retired after 8 overs and numbers 3 and 4 came to the crease to take up the
mantle and try to push up the run rate.
Bradley Stoke took advantage of the fresh batsmen and took their first
wicket shortly after that, new batsmen G Snowdon was stumped by Tom Bradley
off the bowling of Ben Field.
Winterbourne regrouped and the new partnership of A Pullen and A Snart
started to increase the run rate and push their total onwards. This
partnership was eventually retired and the batsmen made 26 and 19
respectively.
Now in the closing overs of this 20:20 game Winterbourne were approaching a
reasonable total. However Bradley Stoke bowler Ryan Clark took a late
wicket, J Brooks missed a straight one to give the side a boost of
confidence. The Bradley Stoke openers then returned to bowl out the innings
and restrict Winterbourne to 100 for 2 from their 20 overs.
It was then the turn of Bradley Stoke to swing the willow. Tom Bradley and
Ryan Clark took to the crease like a duck to water smashing their way to a
45 run partnership in only 5 overs leaving Winterbourne in shock. Scoring 23
and 21 respectively they retired at this point and were replaced by Hugh
Raynor and Alfie Bradley.
Hugh and Alfie defended their wickets valiantly and were retired in the 10th
over with the score at 47.
Winterbourne then hit form and took a number of wickets without conceding
many runs over the remaining 10 overs. Bradley Stoke finished their 20 overs
on 66 for 6 and lost the game by 44 runs.
However the squad left the field with huge smiles on their faces and their
head held high as they had provided a quality Winterbourne side with a scare
and a hard fought match. Both teams applauded each other from the field and
left with a good experience under their belts.

Match Report:- Thornbury CC have a
reputation of being one of the best Youth Teams in the county. As this was
only the second game for Bradley Stoke they were in for a challenge.
However a number of players who missed the first game were back from holiday
and Bradley Stoke fielded a team which included 5 changes and more strength
in depth.
For the second game in a row Bradley Stoke found themselves in the field
first and looking to restrict their opposition to an achievable total. They
made a strong start with opener Lewis Wentland taking the wickets of J
Summerfield and K Rigg.
Thornbury opener V Misra showed a positive attitude and combined with their
number 4 L Cain to put together a decent partnership. However this was
broken by a sharp piece of backing up off an overthrow. Ben Field and the
Keeper Adam Campbell combined to run out Misra for 20.
L Cain was the next to be dismissed when he was bowled by Nathan Redmore for
13. This left Franklin and Attwood at the crease for Thornbury who managed
to see them through to 90 for 4 from their 20 overs. This low total was
largely due to a splendid fielding performance from all 11 team Bradley
Stoke team.
After a quick change over due to the quickly fading light Bradley Stoke
began their task of knocking off 90 runs @ 4.5 an over. They started
positively reaching 10 in quick time without the loss of a wicket.
However at this point the Thornbury bowlers showed their class and began to
take wickets in quick succession. Tom Bradley was first to fall, lbw to
Misra for 5 and the others followed.
Adam Campbell and Ryan Clark showed the most resistance and manage to cause
the Thornbury attack some trouble in-between the other wickets falling but
everyone’s effort were to no avail as Bradley Stoke were dismissed for 42
after 12.5 overs.
The pick of the Thornbury bowlers were H Moore who finished with figures of
2-2-0-3 and V Misra with 2-1-2-2.
Bradley Stoke leave this fixture with great confidence in the field as they
have again demonstrated their ability to trouble a high quality opposition
with their bowling and fielding prowess.
